I’ve never been a fan of using ab machines to firm my midsection, but the Ab Coaster has me rethinking my belly-toning approach. Using is similar to doing a semiprone leg raise, but with one important addition: added resistance. You kneel on the pad and use your abs to draw your legs up, pulling the 20-pound platform with them. After a six-minute session, my middle was burning—in a good way! While you don’t need to shell out cash to flatten your abs, if a machine motivates you to exercise, this is the one to try. ($400; www.abcoasterclub.com). Do reps slowly to get the best results.
